Lumbar Disc Herniation

Lumbar disc herniation: Lumbar disc herniation occurs when the outer layer of a spinal disc in the lumbar region (lower back) weakens or tears, allowing the inner gel-like material to protrude or herniate. This herniation can exert pressure on nearby nerves, resulting in pain, numbness, or weakness in the lower back and legs. Lumbar disc herniation is often associated with aging, wear and tear on the spine, or sudden injury, contributing to its prevalence among both younger and older populations. The intervertebral discs act as cushions between the vertebrae, providing flexibility and shock absorption. When a disc herniates, it can lead to irritation of the surrounding nerves, causing a range of symptoms that vary in intensity and duration
